Weekly simming 52/2017 & Year in Review

Happy New Year! This is it, the very last Weekly simming for 2017 and the first post of 2018. Here's hoping for a great year with loads of fun and productivity!

The last week of the year was fairly busy, so I didn't have a lot of progress. I did play the Fortunatos a little bit, so we're at I think Friday morning there. Writing and my TS4 project have been on hold this past week.

But let's see how last year as a whole went. I had set myself four goals:

1. Remember to do fun things. I think I mostly managed this. I have several projects going on, with Alphabetia, Lakewood, the apocalypse and my TS4 legacy, so that's some variety for switching around when I'm not feeling a particular one. I do think that learning to relax and have fun with the game(s) again is an ongoing process, though, not a perfect score there.

2. Try something new with picspams. Well, I did this. This year, I've been posting picspam in queued bursts, and I've been liking it more than my old style. It spreads the picspam accross some time and gives me a chance to say more about each picture if I want to. Also, it gives me time to schedule the picspam, so that it doesn't feel like such a chore. I feel pretty happy about that. I'd of course love to have a queue going at all times, but I don't honestly think that's realistic.

3. Try to figure out a solution to the population issue. Accomplished this one, at least I think so. I came up with a priority system for the sims in Alphabetia, and have started to play according to that, although I haven't had time to play that much. But so far, I like the system, and I hope in the long run it'll reduce the dragging along in Alphabetia and make things both faster and, above all, more fun. Fingers crossed!

4. Keep writing, be active, report progress. I'll say "fairly good" on this one. Disregarding a couple of cases where I either forgot, was sick or extremely busy, I reported progress regularly, and whenever I couldn't I combined two reports into one afterwards. I've tried to be as active as I could, although I don't think I'm quite up to date with everything I read currently. As for writing, well, I've been doing that too, but especially on the plotty side, it's been kind of painful. I'm not blocked as much as suffering from a lack of concentration at most times. I try to do something about that, but I've come to think that after the work-related disaster fivish years ago, that might just be how things are now. In any case, I've been doing writing, even if it is a tiny bit at a time, and that's what matters.

So, that's it for 2017. Overall, not too bad. Real life was in a rather big change, with the move and change of jobs, and that took some of my time and energy, but overall, I do feel that the change was for the better. Hopefully, things will continue to move in a good direction in 2018. Here are some goals for simming.

1. Have fun. I should keep reminding myself of this, at the very least every year, preferably more often. It's easy to make simming and especially writing a chore, at which point there's not point in it anymore. Don't make it so, keep it fun and relax.

2. Be active, report progress, post picspams. Mostly, keep doing what I've been doing, because I think that's pretty much working. Tune if necessary.

3. Tentative goal: publish at least one Bookacy update. It's been several years since I've had a concrete goal when it comes to Alphabetia, so I thought maybe it was time to have one. I should be more than halfway done with the chapter, so I hope it shouldn't be overwhelming. I try to come to peace with the thought that as much I'd like to, I might not ever be able to finish, and just try to get forward little by little. It'd be great to gain speed and publish several chapters, but I try to keep any and all goals reasonable and hopefully achievable, not to set too much pressure on myself.

4. Keep working on the rebuild. I'm not going to set a goal about finishing it, it'd be nice of course, but with real life and everything, it may well not be realistic. But, to keep working on it is a goal.

Well, I think that's enough for this year. Here's hoping it's a good one!
