Simming goals for 2013
Happy 2013, all! I'm a little bit late here as compared to everyone else, but that's no longer a surprise to anyone, right? Life's been kind of busy, although now I've sworn not to overwork myself, not after the way the huge push at the end of the year made me feel. We'll see how things go.
Anyway, enough about that, let's see how 2012 went:
1. Finnish generation C's plot arch. Well, this one I did, and I knew I would. I was quite close at the end of 2011 already. But I'm still quite happy that I did.
2. Get gen. D to college. These generational goals of mine really start to look ridiculous, don't they? I never meet them... This time, I got as far as teenifying the few oldest members of the generation, and in fact, some of the younger gen. Cs are only now having babies. Well, what can I say? I play everyone, and real life seems to like to intervene.
3. Bring the download archive up to date. I'll consider this one done. I did a push to get it finished some time ago, and it now includes all adults of generation C. Only after the turn of the year I remembered I meant to add supporting characters as well, such as Lauren the witch, Pao the vampire and my simself but completely forgot about them. Well, the bulk of them are done anyway.
4. Bring the family tree up to date. Done! I know, this was an easy one, but it's still done and it counts!
5. Clean my downloads folder. Ahem. I've done some, but not really much. I needed to get a better computer during 2012, which meant that my amount of downloads doesn't really lag the game anymore, so I have less incentive to do this now. I still want to, eventually, weed out clothing recolors that I don't need etc.
6. Get my act together about the photo recolor project. Even more ahem. Remember, the one where I wanted portraits of all families so I could hang them on walls? It's the second year in a row that I haven't even touched this one. I think I'll just drop this as a goal and just see if I ever get this done. It'd be nice, but it's not the main thing here.
7. Try to be active. Well, I did this, to a greater or lesser degree. I tend to go in bursts, I lag behind in reading and commenting, and then catch up, as sometimes real life is like that, and then it gets harder and harder to catch up and gets me into avoidance mode. I always do, in the end, though. I didn't get to catch up with terribly many stories, not as many as I would have hoped, but at least I kept up with the ones I already follow.
In conclusion, I tend to get the smaller things done, but big, intimidating projects tend to be forgotten, and my generational goals are always unrealistic. Well, okay, again in 2012 I spent some time computerless, as replacing my old computer took a rather longish time, and in addition, I kicked off a new side project, about which I'm quite happy. I didn't see that one coming at the last turn of the year. Anyway, I might want to re-think my goals a bit for 2013.
2013 you say?
I expect 2013 to be a fairly busy year, since I suppose I'd be expected to defend my (not yet started) thesis this year and whatnot. So maybe I should be fairly modest with my simming goals.
1. Enjoy my game. This is, after all, the most important thing. Even if I get absolutely nothing done in terms of storytelling and generational goals, if I still had fun well that's the main thing.
2. Send generation D to college. I'm a bit dog-headed about these goals, am I not? At least one sim in college in the end of the year, please? I'm getting more and more modest with these generational goals, but maybe not modest enough.
3. Update with at least four chapters, be it Bookacy or the apocalypse. I looked and last year, I got out three full chapters of the Bookacies, one intrelude, and one chapter of the apocalypse. So hopefully this can be done.
4. Try to figure out a way to post picspam occasionally without having to tear my hair out. I'd love to post picspam, but lately I haven't. It's mostly because I have so many families and I find typing out the entries tedious; it can easily take me a couple of hours to compile a big picspam post. So I've been keeping a break from that, and I need to figure out a way to post pictures non-tediously.
5. Try to be active: stay on top of commenting and catch up with a couple of stories. I can't always stay on top of commenting entirely, but I should try to not leave huge gaps like I sometimes have. Also, reading more is always good.
Okay, maybe five goals are enough for this year. We'll see if I can make any of these... I hope to at least keep making number 1 - that's what matters. Distractions happen, new goals pop up, but the most important thing is to have fun.
