Myshuno: False information

Prompt: Betrayal by a close friend (fairphantom92)
Words: 380
Universe: canon Strangetown, after the first lift
Warnings: a few bad words here and there

Some Villains or Heroes for a change, and well, nothing too surprising considering the prompt. It's a bit more in depth about Sal's feelings than we saw in the chapter. Also, I'm not 100% happy with it, but isn't that more or less always the case? Anyway, here it is!

Salahuddin collapsed into an armchair, and immediately regretted it. He'd forgotten that in this new Strangetown, the things he was able to have weren't up for that kind of treatment. He was lucky the chair hadn't collapsed under him. He rested his head back and turned the radio on. It made some odd noises, but came to life after all.

It was some public service announcement again. After a moment Salahuddin was sure he recognized the speaker, it was that Rodney Jalowitz from the warehouse. Salahuddin didn't know him well, but he remembered that voice. It had been a while since he had heard it. But what Salahuddin heard, froze him on the spot.

Jalowitz was apparently telling the audience what everything they were now allowed to do. Invite visiting sims inside. Give gifts. Change existing living arrangements. Befriend service sims. And all this was somehow, through some brilliant action or other, made possible by the city council.

The city council! Salahuddin was steaming. The city council! What had they done, beside making the already difficult into intolerable by their restrictions? Salahuddin knew each item on Jalowitz's list before he said them, hell, he had known them long before Jalowitz had! Because he had been the one to make those things happen, he had been the one to make things right, not Jalowitz. And definitely not the goddamn city council.

Suddenly all of Salahuddin's rage disappeared. It was replaced by a pressing feeling in his chest. The city council had just publicly taken credit for his work, before any other information, more correct information, had the chance to surface. It had to be planned, a clever political trick. And what was worse, if Rodney Jalowitz was involved with the city council, it was certain that three other sims were involved with it too. They knew about it. They very likely accepted it. Possibly they even suggested it in the first place. Salahuddin realized that what caused the pressing feeling in his chest wasn't Cypress Vetinari or Marielle Hutchins. He didn't know them that well, and especially in Cypress' case, he wouldn't put it past him. But if Rodney Jalowitz was involved, if those three were involved... so was Seth.

The pressing feeling got worse. Had Seth done this to him?

Oh Sal, honey D: I would volunteer my own thoughts, but they would depend on what stage Seth is at in your universe, so it's obviously your call. But I hope Seth does genuinely believe that it's for some kind of greater good, whether or not the others do.

Though they could at least make Sal and his family members so they could share the glory...

Yeah, poor Sal, he hasn't had much luck... *cuddles him*

That's an interesting point about Seth's stage! In my head he and Rodney were detached from Simfield at about the point you were in your story back when I started the apocalypse (they had recently captured Briney), but since I read so many of your Sethney fics, probably my Seth is a bit more like a later phase Seth (mostly). *ahem* Being ripped from your universe does funny things to consistency? :)

I might not be fully decided on Seth's views on this, but I don't think at least Cypress can be persuaded to share any glory. :P Well, we've only gotten started so we'll see what tricks Sal and his family may have up their sleeves...

Thanks for reading and commenting! ^^

That's a very Rodney thing to do. And nothing Seth does surprises me anymore. But Sal needs to catch a break somewhere ! Poor Sal!

Well, they are bad guys, and they've formed an alliance with more bad guys, so yeah, not very surprising. But what I like about the original characters is that they aren't completely bad guys either - we'll see how that plays out in my story.

Yeah, poor Sal. I think that actually, he's (mostly) happy in Strangetown, even despite the apocalypse. He gets to be with the woman he loves and have a family, he gets to be resourceful and solve things. Compared to that, this is maybe more of a minor irritation in the long run. And, maybe Sal can do something about it, too... ;)

Completely stinks to have the credit taken from you, but when it's someone that you trust... that really sucks.

Poor Sal. I hope he doesn't have a heart attack with the pain in the chest.

It's definitely not a nice situation to be in. And having suspicions about it actually being someone who you've considered a friend... That hurts.

Oh yes, poor Sal. I'm sure he'll be fine, though. He knows the truth even if not many others do, and in the end there are more important things in his life. And, he's pretty resourceful, he may be able to do something about this too...

Thanks for reading!
