Quick update on the machine

I had a friend over to look at the machine. The diagnosis is that there's one part that overheats (not sure what it's called in English), the machine notices and shuts itself down to prevent damage, hence the sudden bluescreening. And that part overheats quite often now, which means my machine struggles to stay on.

To fix it, I'd have to get a new motherboard. Now for a machine of that age those might be kinda unreasonably pricey, and had I not just literally less than a month ago gotten a bunch of extra memory for the machine, I'd probably just go and get a new machine to avoid the hassle, and paying big bucks for hardware that's kinda old. But my friend said he has a spare motherboard laying around from someone else's computer (yeah, these guys tend to have something like three actual, working computers, one that doesn't exactly work right now because *enter technical jargon here*, but they're working on it, plus some miscellaneous parts laying in cupboards, just in case they'd come in handy some time :) ) and that could fit the kind of hardware I have, so I could get things fixed cheaper.

Of course, there's the risk that once I replace one part, another one suddenly breaks, and then another... In which case I would have been better off getting a new computer in the first place. But, since I literally just got the new memory, I'll probably see if this idea works. My friend will yet have to make sure the motherboard he has is compatible, though.

So yeah, it seems it's a hardware problem after all. But now I have a diagnosis, so heading towards a solution too, which is good.

Well, at least now you know. I hope the good luck keeps going! *high five*

It's definitely better to know than to ponder what might be wrong. *nods* Thanks, I hope so too. *high fives back*

Getting things sorted is good. Hopefully this continues to be sorted out. Thanks for the cheer. :)

Heh. Your friend sounds a lot like my boyfriend. "What, you need a weird, random computer bit? Hang on, I'm sure I've got one or two or seven of those around here somewhere..."

Hope he has what he needs to fix it!

Hehe. I've got several friends like that, they have all kinds of computer parts and whatnot laying around, from various updates and tune-ups on past and present computers, be it their own or someone else's. They've also got the skill to diagnose and fix these kinds of problems, and thankfully, they're always willing to help when something goes wrong. Total sweethearts. <3

Thanks, I hope so too! *crosses fingers*

Heh, what your computer is doing sounds alot like what my computer has been doing alot of lately, though I think my machine's actually dying and won't be able to be used for anything once it does die.

Here's hoping your computer woes are all sorted out soon :).

If it wasn't for more skillful friends, I think I would have ended up deeming my computer dead as well; there was no way I could find out what the problem was, let alone fix it myself. Now it might be that it can yet be revived, which is nice.

Thanks! *crosses fingers* Good luck with yours, too!
