Bonita's Wants, Hurdle 1

Hello, and welcome to Bonita's Wants! Bonita's Wants is, uhm... err, well, it's a new challenge by me, because I'm a perpetual challenge starter. No, I haven't abandoned Lakewood, in fact I was working on the next household when this new thing struck me. It was just too tempting.

You see Boolprop is doing a Summer Sim Challenge, basically if you start a new challenge (whaterver you choose) and complete it by the end of September, there's medals up for grabs. Two different ones, on top of the ones you normally get for completing certain challenges. I happen to love sim challenges and medals, so... well, you're looking at the result.

Bonita's Wants is a Great Boolprop Olympic Challenge. In summary, you pick an activity from your game and have a sim do it for a number of times: 25, 50, 75 or 100 times. So you could paint 100 paintings, eat 50 grilled cheese sandwiches, kiss 75 sims... You get the drill. All while living the everyday life, you get points for other things as well. I picked the challenge because I haven't done it before, and of course because it should be a pretty short one. Depending on the activity it should be well doable in a single sim's lifetime.


Meet Bonita Curious, my foundress. If you follow my Lakewood BaCC, she might look familiar. She's Pascal Curious' alien daughter from the Curious OWBC. In Lakewood, she's only just left for college, but this is a fresh copy of Bonita, who's just moved to Desiderata Valley.

Bonita is a Knowledge/Family sim with the personality 9/0/10/0/6 (Virgo), and her LTW is to Become Mad Scientist. Her randomized turn ons are Hats and Stink, and her turn off is Mechanical. Like in Lakewood, she likes girls.

And the activity of choice? Fulfilling a Want. My playstyle is pretty much want-based anyway, and I figured that way she wouldn't just be doing the same thing over and over. Initially, we'll be shooting for 100 Wants, but another good thing about this challenge is that you can decide the target number as you go.

So, Bonita. Are you ready to fulfill some wants?

Bonita: “Oh yes, I was wondering when you'd get to that. I do have a Want Panel full of things right now, so fire away!”

Great!



Now unlike in a legacy, you can start on any size lot, so we took a nice little one where Bonita has some money to actually build a small house. It's done and mostly furnished now, but we need a finishing touch, because Bonita has a couple of Wants with regards to the furniture and I saved the money for them. So here goes.





Want #1: Buy a Bookcase.





Want #2: Buy a Telescope Costing at Least §500.



While waiting for the newspaper to be delivered, Bonita watched some cooking channel. It's not a Want right now, but a little cooking is always good to have off the bat. You know, in order not to burn the house down, hopefully.



What Bonita does want, is a job in the Science career, which is also her LTW career. So let's see what's available today. We don't have money for a computer yet, but soon we can get one if needed.



As an amzing stroke of luck, the third job offered is Science! Wow. The last time I was trying to find a specific job on the newspaper, it took me ten days, after which I gave up and bought a computer! I suppose my game is trying to make up for that.


Want #3: Get a Job in the Science Career.


Work was about to start right away, but it was too late for the carpool to come, so Bonita just walked to work that first day.


And she came home, just as evening was setting in. The hours as a Test Subject are quite long. Bonita missed the welcome wagon (I think it was just my simself), so as she wasn't completely exhausted, she walked to a nearby park in the hopes of meeting some sims.





As it turns out, she could score some Wants there, as the park had a couple of chess boards and Bonita wanted to try them out.

Want #4: Play Chess.



She got to talk to one of the Garden Club members while she was at it.




Chess boards also have the nice property that they award logic skill, which Bonita happened to want.

Want #5: Gain a Logic Skill Point.


Before heading home, Bonita took care to meet some of the other sims on the lot.


She'd just gotten home when my simself decided to walk by. So Bonita greeted her too.


She was apparently in a joking mood. It looks like the two of them got along well.


Bonita cooked dinner for the two of them. Only mac and cheese, and thankfully she didn't burn the house down. Her kitchen is equipped with a fire alarm just in case, but still.


It was nice to have some company for dinner.




After watching a bit of tv together, Bonita said good night. There was just a little time to fulfill one little Want before bed.




And while doing just that, we found out that Bonita's OTH is Science, just like it is in Lakewood.

Want #6: Stargaze with Telescope.


Stargazing was also profitable for Bonita, as she discovered a new star. Not bad, we can use the money.


Good morning Bonita, how's the Want Panel looking today?

Bonita: "Morning. Well, I'd like to get some skilling done."

Well, I think we can do that. It's also useful for work. Although I suppose the downside of picking a Knowledge sim for this challenge is that we're going to look at you sitting on the couch with a book a lot.

Bonita: "There's that. But I get to skill!"


But first things first, we need to get you dressed and fed.




Now let's look at that skilling.

We took care of another one while we were at it.

Want #8: Reach Cleaning Level 2.


Bonita was just leaving for work when the mail carrier showed up. We delayed leaving just enough to greet her. Always keeping an eye for new sims! Bonita is super shy, but also Family in secondary aspiration, so I need to help her a bit there.


That afternoon Bonita came back with her first promotion. Good work, now go take care of your needs, we're going to a community lot!

Bonita: "Can't I just skill more instead?"

Sorry, I feel you, but nope. You're meeting some sims, like it or not.


Desiderata Valley seems to have a museum available, so Bonita headed there. Interestingly, the museum had a swing set on its front yard, and someone was already swinging when Bonita came on the lot. I suspect the swing set may be the most popular attraction of the museum.




It was pretty quiet, but Bonita dutifully greeted all the sims she hadn't met previously.




After that, she got to go home and skill more, like she wanted to.

Want #9: Reach Cleaning Level 3.


It's been a pretty tiring day already. It's a good thing we had some money to spare, so that I could buy an espresso machine for Bonita. It was much needed.


There was some mac and cheese in the fridge from yesterday, so Bonita didn't have to make dinner.




It's not difficult to guess what she wanted to do after dinner.

Want #10: Stargaze with Telescope.





Want #11: Reach Logic Level 2.




The next morning, Bonita just wanted some cereal for breakfast.

Want #12: Eat Cereal.


Not even this challenge is all fun and games. Sometimes the plumbing breaks down and you have to fix it. Too bad Bonita doesn't have a...


Wait, apparently she did! Well, I missed the beforehand picture there, but I caught the points. It must have been a generic skill point want. So yeah, even doing the chores can help towards the goal of the challenge.

Now that Bonita has a head start on her career, I figured that she can afford a maid. That helps so much in the chores department. Bonita is so neat that she doesn't mind cleaning at all, but she has other things to do.




Bonita would only have work in the evening, so first she got to do something she wanted: skilling.

Want #14: Reach Mechanical Level 2.



When the maid showed up, Bonita got to know her a bit.


Oh yeah, that was just her Agreeing Face in case you were wondering. The two of them got along fine.





After that, Bonita headed back into the park in the hopes of meeting new sims, and promptly wanted to play chess. Well, in this challenge she absolutely got to do that.

It was much quieter on the meeting new sims front. It was just the old ones, but she got to fish with some of them. Not that she caught much, but still.

At this point, I got suspicious, as basically wherever Bonita went, it was just her and the Garden Club. I cracked SimPe open and confirmed what I had started to suspect: that was because the 'hood basically consisted of Bonita, my simself, and the Garden Club. Also ACR told me that spouse hunting wasn't great: there was exactly one gay female sim in the 'hood, Bonita. (The one bi female in the 'hood was the mail carrier, but they had negative chemistry.)

I wondered how that came to be, as I'd expected Desiderata Valley to have, you know, playables, townies and such. Then it dawned to me: I had probably not opened that 'hood prior to installing the clean templates. I didn't expect them to do anything on existing 'hoods, but I suppose opening the 'hood for the first time is the key. Well, since I figured out what the problem was, I broke out the townie gun and randomized some townies for us. Bonita was going to need some buddies, and hopefully with more than one gay lady in town, she might have some romantic prospects too.





Bonita headed home, and after lunch there was still some ample time for skilling, that is, preparing for future Wants.



Then, it was time for the evening shift at work.


After the shift, it was good news and bad news. Bonita came home with a promotion, and the flu. Don't worry, go take a shower and then off to bed with you!


Fortunately, a good night's sleep was enough to fend off Bonita's flu.


Good morning Bonita. Are you feeling better?

Bonita: "Yeah, much better thanks. It was just a little flu and it's gone now."

Well good, there's lots for you to do.







Before work, Bonita had just enough time to score a couple of Wants.

Want #17: Reach Cleaning Level 4.



And then, time for work. Don't tire yourself out Bonita, we're going out after work.

Bonita: "Again?"

Yes. Hopefully it'll be a little more interesting with sims other than the Garden Club.



We didn't quite have time for the promotion requirements, but that's okay. Now Bonita has a full day off ahead of her.




After having taken care of her needs, Bonita headed back to the park. And behold, there were actually sims there for her to meet!



Apparently someone else was happy about that too. Bonita had a lightning bolt with the lady here too, but we're not going to go between these two.


Shy sim compliments! Shy sim flirting is the cutest, but shy sim compliments are definitely awesome too.


Not all of our new residents are very nice though.



Bonita started feeling hungry, so she made some hot dogs for everyone. It was raining, I hope they weren't all soggy.




Of course, as she was in the park, Bonita wanted to play some chess.

While she was at it, we also witnessed a second townie romance.




She was joined by one of the Garden Club members, and as they played, she also found she'd again gained some skill like she wanted to.

When we got back home, Bonita was getting tired, but it wasn't quite bedtime yet, so she made some espresso for herself.




She studied more Cleaning, as it benefits both her Wants and her career.

Bonita was a bit hungry again, so it was time for an evening meal. She was quite happy as she learned more about cooking with it.

Want #21: Gain a Cooking Skill Point.



Her bowl of mac and cheese tasted pretty good after that.




She was clearly setting into a routine, one that involved some evening stargazing.

After breakfast the next morning, Bonita headed to the museum for a change. She did some fishing, partly because the pond was close to the sidewalk, where she could greet any newcomers.





And she did indeed meet some new sims.


She ate lunch with some of her new aquintances. The sim to her right, in the green shirt and overalls, is Tammy Shaw. Bonita and Tammy seemed to get along very well, they spent some time talking after the others had already left the table.



After lunch, Bonita stayed at the museum and met more new sims. In fact, she met someone rather intriguing, too.

This is Brenda Louie, and she and Bonita have two bolts of chemistry. Brenda left the lot soon after Bonita had greeted her, she was only passing by, but we'll be sure to get to know her better.



Other than meeting new sims, Bonita spent most her afternoon pushing sims in the swing set. It was definitely the most popular attraction of the museum. It was actually kind of hard to socialize with anyone, because someone swinging would just get in the way.



Bonita had barely made it home from the museum, when her cell phone rang. It was Tammy who wanted to chat. Clearly, the two had hit it off. She called again later in the day, and as a result, the two of them were soon friends. Conveniently, Bonita happened to need a friend for her next promotion too.






That afternoon Bonita also had some chores to do. A stray dog, or likely a wolf (since my hacks keep generated sims and pets at bay), had dug a hole on the yard, and well, she needed to eat too.







She also had some Wants in the skills department (of course, she's a Knowledge sim), so we worked on those.

Before it got too late in the evening, Bonita yet got on the phone and called Brenda. We want her to say yes when Bonita has the opportunity to invite her over.





It was almost bedtime, but there was still something small that Bonita wanted to do. Can you guess what it was? Yes, she quite likes her telescope.

With that, we've passed the first hurdle of the challenge! And I think it's a good time to wrap this update up. Score so far is simple:

Total: 25.
