Time for the traditional outtakes and BTS post! Not terribly much to talk about, as this chapter has been more towards observational, but I figured we could still have some fun outtakes and babble a bit.

So yeah. We've gotten to the child years of generation D, or the first of generation Ds anyway. I'm glad the generation C drama is now dealt with, so we can get to know the younger sims a bit. I sort of wonder if peaceful is terribly boring, but at least for the moment, I'm sort of enjoying it.

Everyone gets along, almost too well to be realistic, and all is happy bunnies and sunshine. I do wonder, but on the other hand, at least in the case of Dirk and his two Daddies, I didn't want to repeat the resentment that happened back when Aadam was a little boy. So even if it is a little unrealistic to some, Dirk and Nicholas get along just great, and even the adults are just fine with each other.

As of about the beginning of this chapter, or the events there, Prof. Eric moved out of the house. In the story he's been gone since he left Cho at the altar, but since I needed him for the portrait, and wanted him to be there for Dirk and help with his toddler skills and whatnot, he stayed. But now that Cho and Nicholas were to have kids, we needed the space so it was time for him to go. I've since then towniefied him.

Speaking of the portrait, I'm still proud of how it turned out. The image I had in my head about the portrait was part of what inspired me to end Cho and Eric's storyline the way I did; once I'd seen the portrait in my head, I could not not do it.

And yup, Nicholas is still working on his sewing. Trying to get all badges feels a bit crazy, but with businesses, elixir and orangeade (I just learned the other day that it's orangeade, not orange juice that helps with badges), maybe it's doable. Gotta have some challenges!

My current idea of Dirk, then, mostly relies on one observation: he's very serious, and seems to enjoy quiet, studious activities. I suppose that also makes him seem shier than he actually is. It sort of fits that he's a kind of a contemplative kid, after everything that's been going on with his parents and all. So far, he seems to be a bit of a worrywart, maybe he gets that from Cho, seeing her earlier ideas of what it is to be a good heir etc. Anyway, Dirk is not very developed as of yet, we'll see how he becomes later on.

Speaking of Dirk, this one amused me. Yes, that's Dirk on the piano. Apparently the sounds he produces are the kind that only a proud grandmother can love!

Lots of kids get dragged home from school, often various cousins. (That's Devon GilsCarbo, son of Carl and Veronica.) And I tend to lose track of them, since they often wander into the basement to play with the podium. Well, at least that's one place to check if I'm missing a kid.

I did get Dirk to private school. I was originally going to wait until I can get all three kids there at once, but then decided to do it in parts since the kids of this generation are sort of spaced out.

George and Count Pao still go out, slowly but surely. They are at about 10 out of 50 in George's dream date LTW as of this chapter, and George is closing in on being permaplat from his lifetime aspiration. As of right now in game, they are at sixteen dream dates, and George hit permaplat today while I was playing.

Have a couple of darkish but cute George/Count Pao pictures, because karaoke faces are the best (yeah, I haven't gotten the Downtown lighting cheat to work, should try it yet again):

Pao occasionally does scare George with his blehhhh. I still love the blehhhh, because Curty used to do it. <3 Thankfully, I think George hasn't gotten bitten for a while, but he does keep Vampocillin-D handy at all times anyway.

There was the usual pregnancy stuff of course, with plate-napping and whatnot. Cho has been a pretty good pregnant sim, I guess partly due to her mood perks. Those do seem to help that part. Oh, and she's now had all three kids required in the Alphabet rules, and didn't lose aspiration over any of them. Being Knowledge secondary, she's actually gotten aspiration for some learning-related stuff there, and meeting someone new too.

Speaking of someone new, this chapter we finally got to meet Dorian. In my game, he's now a child, so we're a bit behind there. Fun fact: Dorian was originally named Diotallevi, after a character from Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum, but the name was a bit odd and I figured I have and will have plenty of Eco names, and then suddenly I remembered Dorian Gray. So I broke out the Tombstone of L & D, and renamed Diotallevi into Dorian. I think that suits him much better.

Oh, and like Cyrus, Dorian isn't a name for a goody-goody character, as you may know. I don't take that into account at all when naming my sims. After all, I can't even know what they will be like when I have to name them. I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I've kind of had pretty hilarious namesake mismatches in the past. For instance, Adson, who was named after a monk, turned out a romancer, and Adrian, also originally romancer before I cheesed him, was named after Adrian Leverkühn, who'd made a vow never to love anyone. Beth was named after Beth March from Little Women, a fragile, sweet and painfully shy girl - and turned out to be a mean, outgoing popularity sim. Cyrus was named after a dangerous psycopath (though partly accidentally, I mistook the character for his twin), and turned out to be a lovable doofus. So I don't yet know entirely what Dorian will be like, but my track record predicts he won't be very interested in his looks. :)

Dirk really did sing the nursery rhyme with Dorian. It's really cute when kids do the teaching: when the toddler doesn't sing along, they get frustrated and sing at double speed. :D

This one I kind of wanted to include for comic relief, but didn't find a good place for it, nor what exactly I would have said.

Observation: yes the toddler bowl does have an elephant at the bottom, like [livejournal.com profile] toastsims showed. This observation is of course thanks to George, who put Dorian in the high chair.

Cho is pregnant again in the end of the chapter, we should meet the third child in chapter 39. I did have to make Cho and Nicholas try for a baby; it may be that they would have on their own later, but with Dirk being much older than the other two already, I didn't want to space out the kids even more. Plus since Cho is a romancer, it might be that they wouldn't have tried, and I a) wanted Nicholas to have a second biological kid and b) didn't want the Alphabet rules penalty for not having three kids in a generation.

As for the vacation, Marylena really had had the want for a Far East vacation locked for ages, and I've hinted at it before. They're just always so busy that I tend to forget about things like vacations. And it was actually me who felt a little guilty about not letting the kids go with them, but I want to wait until they are all old enough to go. Then they might be treated by going twice, once with the grandparents and once with Cho and Nicholas, I haven't decided yet.

As for the Ninja, he wasn't actually that elusive, we just got the question wrong. And once he appeared in a flower bench inside a fence, with the result that we couldn't greet him. Oh well, maybe next time.

 photo Chapter38_098-720x450_zpse18fe3ad.jpg
But Baudolino and Marylena did learn to do Tai Chi, actually my first sims to do so. The Wise Old Man started doing it, and I had them join. It has an associated energy boost, and now they tend to mess up their sleep schedules with it whenever I'm not watching. ;) OTOH, I've yet to see a sim elder whose sleep schedule wouldn't be messed up anyway, since they tend to bounce out of bed the second their energy bar is full, which is generally at three in the morning.

Have I mentioned lately that I adore the Wise Old Man? Well, I do. He makes the cutest faces. I would have wanted to include this one!

 photo Chapter38_113-720x450_zps4e04c7a7.jpg
Back at home, nothing going on, not at all. Thankfully the rain extinguished the tree.

And then, birthday time! I've said it a couple of times, but I'm really glad that Dirk rolled Family. It suits him, I haven't had a Family heir yet, and it's a welcome change to the endless parade of Pleasure and Fortune. I was a bit nervous, since Dirk is the only NPC-bred kid this generation, so I really wanted him to be heir to keep that point, so I guess I would have gone with him even if I had to headdesk at his aspiration. And of course, there would have been the college reroll option, but gladly I didn't have to resort to either this time around.

 photo Chapter38_152-720x450_zps53f2e820.jpg
And I think he's pretty cute too, once he got a decent outfit. The strong noses are already a Bookacy thing I think: Dirk got Eric's nose, which is kind of epic, and his other option would have been Cho's, which is also a pretty majestic honker, the goopynose that's come all the way from Curty. To think of it, I'll probably miss that nose if it doesn't pop up somewhere along the line. Dirk got I'm no longer sure whose nose, but in any case, it's a good big nose!

So such. I assure you that the party was a success, even though the birthday boy was busy planning various outfits when the doodah appeared.

Alright, I think that's about it for today's BTS. Now it's back to playing the main house and arranging the first actual apocalypse chapter. Happy simming!
