Alive and planning on migrating
Dec. 28th, 2009 09:38 pmJust thought I'd peek up above ground now that I'm at my computer. I hope you all had a great holiday, or a great Friday if you do not celebrate! Mine went peacefully, I was over at my parents' and hence pretty much offline. Ate, slept, spent time with my family, played with my presents, the usual stuff. I usually eat all too much on Christmas, but I think this year I managed to avoid overeating disasters, althoutgh I could have eaten less too. Well, luckily it's just once a year. =)
Now that I'm back online and trying to catch up with things a bit, I see that the Exchange is down yet again. Sigh. I'm thinking that it's probably about time that I migrated out of there. I kept postponing it, since it was the easiest way and I quite liked the format. But it's starting to look like there's no point in staying and getting to write stories that I can't update and my readers can't read.
It seems that moving to slideshare would be a reasonable option, despite some minor irritations. (Like when it suddenly tells me that a slide couldn't be "properly converted" and I have to reload and click my way back through where I was. Usually this happens right about when the villain is about to kill the current heir, or something else small and insignificant like that.) I just hope that my Open Office will behave this time around. I updated it, fingers crossed that this version will be more obedient.
I'm in the lucky position that I should be able to reconstruct my chapters from the files I have on my simming computer, although it will take some effort to copypaste 28 chapters. But well, luckily it doesn't have to be done all at once. So, I suppose I will slowly be migrating also my old chapters over to slideshare and hosting my legacy over here. That way I won't have to depend on the Exchange anymore. And I can be more wordy if I like - although that could be risky. ;) (I actually got a comment in my sim page guestbook that my chapters are too long and can't be followed... So possibly even longer chapters wouldn't necessarily be a good thing. =P )
Anyway, that's what I'm currently planning. In addition to playing more and writing chapters, that is. =)
Edited to add: At least for me, as I'm typing this, the Exchange seems to be back, and it wasn't yet earlier this evening when I tried. Just in case anyone else wanted to know that. Personally, I'm backing up my stories as I type this - that seems to be the easiest way to recreate them, too.
