Dear diary, I'm not quite sure how it happened, but this Halloween, I found myself in quite a spooky situation. I have a vague recollection of being told that I was suspected of being "crazy", the reason having something to do with having an alphabetacy, a BaCC and an apocalypse going on simultaneously. I'm not quite sure what's wrong with that (other than the fact that the challenges move at a snail's pace), but there you go.
I was locked up in an asylum, and not only that, with seven other "patients". I'm supposed to prove I'm sain, by achieving my Lifetime Want, which happens to be Become City Planner. How that has to do with proving my sanity, I don't know. But I suppose I have to try.

Meet Katri Simself, the playable sim in this asylum challenge. She's a 7/2/4/7/5 (Capricorn) Knowledge sim.

I mentioned seven others in this facility. The reason they're here is unclear, but I've come to suspect that it has something to do with the fact that they're all supernatural.
Here's Annie (left) and Daisy (right). Annie may look perfectly ordinary, but apparently she's a werewolf. Daisy, as you might guess, is a zombie.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Annie is a Pleasure sim and a Gemini, and Daisy is a Popularity sim and a Capricorn.

Here are Bernadette (left) and Cecily, who, like Annie, are also werewolves.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Bernadette is a Cancer Popularity sim and Cecily a Libra Fortune sim.

Then there's Edward, who's a zombie like Daisy.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Edward is a Taurus, and his aspiration is Popularity.

And then there's yet two others. Felix (left) and Gabriel (right), who are, rather obviously, plantsims.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Felix is an Aries and a Pleasure sim, while Gabriel is a Pisces and aspires Family.
You might note that there are no vampires and no witches. I randomized the inmates, but I forbid vampires, because in TS2 an uncontrollable vampire pretty much equals a dead vampire. I could have just as well killed them right away. As for witches, the randomizer just didn't give me any.

For a Knowledge sim like me, living with seven supernaturals might just be interesting, but what I'm really worried about is the back yard. What about the back yard? There are sims buried in there. Why? No one seems to know. Did they once live here? What happened to them? I don't know. But they are there, and I'm pretty sure the tombstones won't be the last we hear of them.

Day 1.
Now since I'm in this situation, I have got to make some kind of a plan. My first order of business was to call everyone in front of the tv to watch the cooking channel. If we are to make our own meals, we have got to learn how to do it first. I could barely see anything from behind everyone else, but no matter, it's not primarily my cooking skill I was worried about.

My heart may have skipped a beat when Daisy headed for the fridge. Maybe she felt confident enought to start cooking right away? I definitely didn't share her optimism if so. But it turned out, she just wanted a snack out of the fridge. In case anyone else was hungry, I quickly made some cereal for everybody before anyone would go for the stove.

If I am to become a City Planner, I better start looking for a job right away. No luck today. Maybe if I check on a computer... What do you mean no computers? How am I supposed to find the job in a decent time without one?
Budget cuts? What's that supposed to mean?
We have a decent sum of money as a household right now, but I figured I should take a job anyway, just in case. We don't want to run out of money. So I took a position in Journalism for now.

Poor Edward. He says he doesn't really remember how he became a zombie, but he's upset by it anyway. It's not something he would have wanted, as he's a Popularity sim. I wonder what might cheer him up.

I spent some more time in front of the cooking channel, and some of the others wanted to join me. It would be pretty embarassing if I caught the stove on fire.

As surprising as it sounds, we got some visitors around noon. I wouldn't have thought anyone would like to visit a closed facility like this, but apparently a bunch of sims did. Maybe they were curious.

I stayed downstairs, but I could hear someone banging on the piano upstairs. It was apparently Cecily who seemed to quite enjoy it. The listeners, not so much, but what can you do.

I took the opportunity to practice at the chess board. Logic is a good skill for any sim to have, and I suspect it'll be of use in my career.

Looking from the sidelines, it seemed that Edward had found something to make him feel better. That didn't take long. He and Daisy were apparently quite drawn to each other.

When I saw one of our guests grabbing a bowl of cereal that looked suspiciously green, I decided it was time to make some lunch for us. I was getting quite hungry too, so I figured the others would need food too. Edward at least was quick to join me.

Felix doesn't need to eat, but he was apparently happy to keep the Caliente ladies company meanwhile.

After lunch, I was joined by one of our guests, Brandi, at the chess table. She seemed nice enough, if a little superficial.

Felix and Gabriel may not need to eat, but I suspect that they might have a bit of a hard time here. By some mysterious asylum law, it's apparently required that all objects are inside, and the two of them need a lot of sunlight. By the afternoon Gabriel was running outside to get some light.

Drat! Sunlamps! I knew I forgot something, and now I can no longer by them because the challenge is ongoing.

By the evening, Daisy and Edward were no longer the only ones to show romantic interest in each other. Now Bernadette and Gabriel were at it, too. To me, this feels like a bit of an odd place for romance, but I guess in a place like this, you look for sources of happiness where you can.

Not everyone seemed very happy towards the evening. I decided that it was time to say goodbye to our guests before Nina caused any more trouble.

Because speaking of trouble, I was sure we'd have plenty of our own.

Actually, the night became quieter than I'd thought. The ghosts didn't seem to be in a haunting mood tonight, and while I did have to cook again, as newly turned werewolves are apparently hungry, nothing too much out of the usual seemed to be going on. It was actually quite interesting to observe werewolf behavior up close.

Poor Felix and Gabriel didn't have a great night. I found them passed out in the yard, apparently due to lack of sunlight. They were too heavy for me to move, so I couldn't do anything but leave them as they were and hope that they'd get some light when the sun would rise again.

I felt pretty tired, so I retired for an early night. It was a wise choice, as it seems one of the effects of the budget cuts is that we don't have enough beds for everyone. Which is horrible, but as the one who can supposedly get us out of here, I think I have to be selfish and make sure I have a bed to sleep in.
I heard later that I was actually the only one in the need of sleep. Felix and Gabriel were of course passed out in the yard, and apparently Daisy and Edward were running on caffeine.

It was apparently also them who insisted on keeping the place clean, at night. Thanks to those budget cuts, we aren't allowed to hire help for that. Yes, I asked about that too. Not possible, I was told.

Annie, Bernadette and Cecily weren't drinking coffee, but apparently they were full of energy anyway. I suppose that may be a side effect of being a werewolf. I didn't have to ask about how their night went since I could hear the piano through the door (Soundproof doors? You guessed it, budget cuts! ). At least Cecily was getting pretty good at it, I'm pretty impressed really.

There were some complaints about the bathroom being taken all the time. I think Daisy and Edward are pretty head over heels for each other and can forget some minor details like their current whereabouts. Lucky them, I guess.

Even the longest of nights end some time. The clock struck sixam and some of the odd effects of the night seemed to pass. We were all still there, and another day at the asylum awaited us.

I felt like doing something just for fun, and the Boolprop Halloween challenge felt like it'd fit. It's a variant of the asylum challenge, where the inmates are supernaturals and optionally you can spook it up with ghosts on the lot. I was curious to see if I could make it with a spooked-up asylum, as TS2 ghosts mainly have the purpose of scaring alive sims. Plus supernaturals are always fun!
For the interested, I didn't cheat for money in the beginning, so I didn't have to reduce the funds to 100 simoleans. I did choose my simself's aspiration and personality, to match the "official" ones. And yes, I chose her partially because I felt like the Knowledge goals were some of the more achievable ones. To make skilling less painful, I also put the neighborhood in perma-fall. I also decided that it's okay to garden and potentially use eggplant juice to help skilling. After all, that's a lot of work too. Oh, and the ghosts are some Pleasantview characters, I suppose you'll probably see some of them later on in the challenge.
This writing style somehow naturally came for me, so I went for it. That isn't to say that this is going to be any real story, but just some lighthearted fun. I'll try to keep the updates short, for the sake of the excercise. We'll see how far I'll get. Thanks for reading, and happy simming!
Asylum
Date: Oct. 31st, 2019 07:39 pm (UTC)What a neat twist on the Asylum! I've been mostly out of Sim-mode this year, but it's nice to have a fun new Sims story to read :)
I'm hoping to get back into the groove fairly soon. Good to see you again!
Re: Asylum
Date: Nov. 4th, 2019 06:26 pm (UTC)This is a fun challenge, it felt just right when I wanted something to play for fun (and potential medals). I'm also curious to see if I can make it with all the ghosts off the bat.
Good to see you again too! :)
