Sooo, guess who has a new computer? You know, one that stays on and all.
We went to the computer store on Friday with my friend, and it turned out they had everything in stock except for graphics cards that were reasonable for me (they only had really cheap ones, that wouldn't have done the job, and super duper expensive ones, which would have been overkill for me). The clerk said they'd have a better selection of those today, so we asked him to put everything else aside for us and said we'd come back. So we did, and today they did have more graphics cards. My friend had an elaborate discussion with the clerk (it contained a lot of numbers), decided on some parts and I stepped in with my debit card and then we had a bag full of computer parts.
We came over to my place, and my friend routinely took out the old parts and put in the new. I operated the vacuum cleaner and baked cookies. So, after everything, I have a new computer which looks like the old one (it's in the same box) but is a little bit louder and clearly more efficient. And also, unlike the old one, it works. Currently, it's installing Windows updates.
So, tonight's agenda would be to get Windows up to date and install some essentials such as an antivirus software. If it's not hugely late after that, I'll yet consult my friend on the phone about disinfecting the external hard drive. If it is, then that's a job for tomorrow or so. But the main thing is, apparently that should be doable. Phew. *crosses fingers that all goes well*
After that I yet need to install all less urgent stuff before I get to sim, but that is already peanuts now that things are looking this good. *is excited*
Oh, and as I've been getting excited about the prospect of simming again, I got struck with an idea for a Bookacy spin-off just the other day. There are several ways in which it would be quite hard, and I'm not entirely sure I could do it, buuuuut... I've been saying that I need a side project, and the idea feels kind of awesome... I'll have to ponder on this some more.
*huggles new computer, simmies and f-list* It's great to have things moving again!

Date: May. 23rd, 2012 05:31 am (UTC)Thanks! It will probably be a few weeks before anyone can fix my simming situation, and for everything to be right in my little part of the world. But, I can wait, I guess.
