Chapter 37 BTS

As I'm currently back on track with my simming stuff, caught up with comments and replies or just about, playing the Alphabetia rotation and actually getting started with the sekrit project, I thought I should maybe post a bit of BTS. It's not a huge thing this go around, for the most part I used actual gameplay pictures and used most of what I took, but I hope you enjoy this mini-BTS anyway.
First of all, Eric. He really did teach Dirk to walk. I needed him controllable for the portrait, so he got to be more present in his son's life a while longer. In other words, even though story canon-wise Eric took off right after leaving Cho at the altar, in reality he lived with the Bookacies until Cho and Nicholas got married and I could paint the family portrait. Since then I've moved him out and townified him.
Perhaps one of the only parts of this chapter where it may have looked like I needed some clever trickery is this - Baudolino and Cho are talking about Rebecca just when it's highly appropriate. Well, I'll admit I just simply, totally lucked out: I had them sit on the couch to get the pictures for the Charlie-discussion, and they just happened to talk about Rebecca randomly. IIRC, they were actually talking about how hot Rebecca is and I was lucky to get a shot without the hearts interfering. (As a side note, neither of them should find Rebecca particularly hot, as Cho is straight and Baudolino is a fortune sim - Rebecca is romance - and at least Cho probably doesn't even know her, so I assume it's gossip. With sims though, you never know.)
Cho did actually buy a vacation home at Three Lakes, and she even gained aspiration for it. I built the house a while ago and have been meaning to have her buy it. I should also build one for Takemizu so the family would have a home away from home in all three destinations. Preferably before the downgrade, as to my understanding I only have to downgrade the home lot (businesses at least are explicitly said to remain intact, so I'd assume vacation homes and Greek Houses go by the same rule). The family hasn't gotten around to using the new vacation home yet, but maybe next rotation.
Next, Doc expressed curiosity over David, Carl and Audrey's son, and how he grows into his features. I've got pictures of all three of Carl's children as kids, so I figured I'd share. (I may or may not have posted them in rotational picspam earlier, can't remember.)

As I said to Doc, I never expected Daniela and Devon to be anything but gorgeous, seeing Carl and Veronica are both very good looking, but David was more of a genetic experiment. So far so good, I think, the mouth is a bit extreme maybe, but I think David's actually kind of cute. We'll see if teenage brings any explosions, but I think it'll be okay.
Next up, Nicholas. One random bit of information that didn't (naturally) make the chapter: he and Robin have two bolts, the same as Cho and Nicholas. Thanks to friends zone, they managed to behave otherwise, but the greeting kisses remained. Thankfully, those don't count.
I took Cho and Nicholas for a date downtown to get some nice pictures of how happy they are together. Only when I arrived there I saw/remembered that the decór of the place is... um... interesting. But oh well, it served its purpose. I also didn't show that they got a public woohoo out of it, mostly because this was just about the best picture I got about that.
Nor did I mention that Sandy and this guy utilized the photobooth on their own. She's maybe more of a romancer than Bill, or maybe Bill's shyness is preventing him, but I suppose Bill is perfectly happy with his situation nevertheless.
Nicholas fared exceptionally well in the transition clothes lottery, only...
... then something glitched out quite severely and I had to resort to a backup, and this was his lottery luck that time. (I seem to have misremembered that he got a puffy vest, but this outfit is just as bad.)
But, that was totally made up for by the fact that we got to meet the streaker. I'd totally love to marry one in somewhere down the line.
Moving on to other random bits of information. This shot is perhaps in addition to the Rebecca-speechbubble one a case where it may look like I staged it. But no, again pure luck: this is from Dirk's actual birthday, and the sims just happened to arrange themselves in a half circle to cheer like that. Perhaps you can tell it's not staged by the fact that Bill is walking out of the room in the background.
As for Sal, yeah, he's jailed now. I actually made a jail lot for him and moved him in; Komei is holding the fortress at his home. Sal totally cheered on his prisoner makeover, which was totally giggle-worthy.
The vacation, then. Here you'll see I've installed M & G (did that some time in the spring, as my sister got me a few of my missing stuffpacks for my birthday in February). I'm enjoying the new stuff, and the animations are sort of cute too. Although I wouldn't need Nicholas to shield his eyes with a suitcase when I'm trying to get a picture of him going on vacation, thank you very much. :P I've seen them shield their eyes with suitcases, trashbags and empty plates (upside down). At least it looks funny.
They really did both get heatstrokes, Nicholas even got his in the evening. So it really was hot there, I didn't make that up.
Recently, just about whenever I'm about to get someone married, it starts to rain. So I use the aspiration reward to make it not rain, so as to get prettier pictures. And in cases where I throw an actual party, to avoid getting guests struck by a lightning and having them die on my lot. This one wasn't a party, it really was just Cho and Nicholas on that beach. I figured after the Eric disaster, Cho would want a quiet occasion.
First actions as a married couple:
Nicholas: "My wife is hot!"
Cho: "I totally got a bad memory for this, but it was soooo worth it!"
This one made me giggle. I'm not sure if you can make out the pop up, but it says: "Time flies while you are having fun. There is only one day left of your vacation. If there was something you were meaning to do on your vacation, you better get to it!"
Well what do you say to that? "We are, thanks"? :D
And yes, in case you were wondering, there was a lullaby. :)
Also, ouch, I don't think that's how you're supposed to do woohoo, Nicholas. But to each their own?
Before they left, I also had Cho learn the firedance, only she was too tired and didn't learn it all the way. I think she got the memento anyway, so now I'm not sure if she knows firedance or not.
Finally, the portrait. If you've followed along from the start, you may have noticed that it's a tradition of sorts to paint a portrait of the heir(ess) and spouse, and it has so far always happened while said heir(ess) and spouse are cuddling on this very couch. (Actually, that couch must be in a bazillion of my pictures, as it's such a good place to have plotty conversations.) This time around, when I had the plot with Cho, Eric and Nicholas somewhat formed in my head, I got this vision that I knew I'd need to do. I wanted Eric to be present in the family portrait, and I wanted to end a chapter with it. I mean, that was the ultimate way to show how well things turned out in the end, despite all the drama.
I originally envisioned Eric standing behind the couple, but as I made Marylena start the painting, I found out that if I did that, I couldn't fit both him and the couple on the canvas. So, I ended up, for the first time in this legacy, using positioning cheats with every intention of saving afterwards. (I'm a bit of a rules stickler, and whenever I shoot plot where I need to cheat, I always quit without saving, even if said cheating is going to do nothing to help me with the challenge. On the other hand, I do use hacks, and if it came to certain situations, I would do stuff that I'd count somewhat cheaty. But let's see if those situations do actually happen ever.) So what I did: since Eric was too tall when standing up, I made him pose sitting down. Of course, this way he'd be hidden behind the couch. So I simply took a suitable height OMSP and stuck him on it. I didn't even bother to turn it invisible, as the couch so nicely covers it. It's not exactly as my original idea was, but I'm pretty proud of the portrait anyway.
That's just about all I have in the ways of BTS this time. As I said, I'm currently playing forward the rotation. I'm also writing a short (as in, very short for me, something like 15 slides) interlude for the Bookacies, and filming the opening scenes for something sekrit that I've been wanting to do as a spinoff. I'll just say that it's another challenge story, and I'm both excited and quite nervous about this - I'm not at all sure if I can actually do it. Fingers crossed.
I've got one picture for you on that; I wouldn't really call it a teaser since the only thing you can tell from it is that I'm using Strangetown. But look (sorry about the terrible composition, this is not meant to be an artsy picture in any way):

I've been playing the game since it came out, and yesterday was the first time I've ever seen that! It moved out of sight before I could get a picture then, but today I was luckier. I even completed a legacy in Strangetown back then, and I've never ever seen that before! Maybe I didn't have the graphics card up for the job back then or something, but it's still pretty cool.
Okay, back to our regularly scheduled simming, and for me, back to working on the sekrit project!
