So maybe I should show some outtakes and babble on about the first actual chapter of the apocalypse. Alright, here goes. Obviously, spoilery if you haven't read chapter 1.

So, where to start? I guess I could say "so far so good" on the challenge part of things. So far everyone's alive (there's one baby currently, but I haven't played further than that) and Sal managed to lift his career without being fired or anything. If his days off had worked out a little more streamlined, maybe he could have done it a little faster, but all in all, not bad.

And I'll have to say I lucked out on getting to lift Intelligence off the bat. My original plan was to try for Natural Science - one of Sal's three items was a snapdragon (alongside with a thinking cap and his diploma) - but Intelligence might actually be even a little better. A snapdragon would have been good for the needs part of the challenge, but on the other hand, it would have been just one, and while I can't get alarms, it could have been stolen. (My idea would have been to put it in inventory for the nights since it's a one tile item, but I can imagine I would have forgotten to.) Intelligence, then, has multiple good sides, like inviting sims in for making friends, giving gifts, befriending NPCs... I'm quite happy that we got that one out of the way.

I'm also obviously happy that I got to move in Bim, and get the two of them married. Bim is awesome, and I can't help but be happy to see Sal happy. I'm also looking forward to seeing their kids - despite the fact that the poor things won't exactly be looking their best in these circumstances.

If my memory serves, I got to move Bim in on the third Tuesday of the challenge. The first Tuesday she was over and the second they talked on the phone. It's altogether a bit later than I would have hoped, but now they already have one baby and he's still an adult with some time left so I guess not bad. Though currently I kind of wish I'd picked elixir rather than a thinking cap for Sal to take home.

There was a lot more calling going on than I showed in the chapter, because numerous friends were calling Sal. Yes, including Seth. (And I guess that face is kind of plot appropriate there, but I don't exactly appreciate Sal pulling that face like every time someone calls him, it'd be nice to have some actual decent pictures of him on the phone. :P ) And a lot of the time they gave him stuff, which I've been storing on the room. I hope we don't run out of space there!

And yes, this continued to be a frequent topic of conversation, and it still never failed to amuse me.

Challenge-wise, it's of course good that there are a lot of walkbys and that Sal's friends come over a lot, seeing how little chance Sal has to keep in touch himself. But story-wise, it's a bit inconvenient. It's supposed to be the end of the world, and still there are sims constantly on Sal's yard, including teenagers. What are they doing there, especially the teens? I tried to explain it away, but it did cause some headscratching.

What I didn't show in the story was that not only sims but also pets wandered on the lot sometimes. After all these years, I still find the mailman petting the dogs adorable. And the head wolf came over too. A werewolf would be kind of cool, even useful (they can have a better bed and they would be useful against burglars), but Sal didn't have much time and he doesn't strike me as a werewolf type. The wolf's name was Killer, which sort of amused me, though.

The car. That was a major bummer for me gameplay-wise. Sal had put so, so much time and effort into it, and then it got stolen! Of course I knew it could happen - and it still can! - but it was still awful to see it and not be able to do anything about it. Gladly Sal had some time in his hands and he could start over and finish it this time. Now I only hope the burglar stays away... The family being bigger may help someone since the odds of someone being awake are bigger, but still, it'd be a huge bummer if it got taken again. We need it to invite friends and to go to work pregnant!

These work clothes were a total surprise to me. I don't think I've ever topped Intelligence at least with a male sim. It was sort of a shock to see Sal look like his old self again.

Overall, it's nice to get to show this other side of Sal's. If things had gone differently in the legacy, it's easily imaginable that he would never have become a villain, but rather would be a very nice guy, even admirable in some circumstances. He's perhaps even somewhat naive when it comes to some things, say, romance, and in the legacy, this has partly contributed to him becoming what he has become. But here, things are different indeed.

Anyway, I guess that's most of the apocalypse house gameplay stuff that I wanted to talk about. Let's yet talk about the villains house a bit.

Basically, this picture was the number one reason why it took me so long to get this update out. Well, real life stuff and such aside of course. I had most of the text already, when I realized that I need to play the villains to get them promoted to the top of their careers, so that I can get them the work clothes. Maybe there is a cheaty way, but I didn't know of an easy one, and decided to go for it the old-fashioned way. It could turn out useful later, anyway.

So there's been a lot of this: going to work in various more or less silly outfits, and hopefully coming back with promotions. I also had it as a bit of a competition between the villains to see who would make it to the top first. Rodney won, and Cypress (whom I most needed to top his career) was the last. Probably just to spite me. Or it could be that I picked a bad chance card early on, and he was unlucky with his days off. Your pick.

And of course there was a lot of skilling, too.

 photo Villains_chapter_1_349-720x450_zpsf2f6c8fa.jpg
Maybe a few thoughts on the imports. I may have overplayed Cypress' arrogance somewhat, perhaps he should be smarter than to make draw hasty conclusions on the reasons of the apocalypse, but I needed him not to be on the right track on that, and somehow Sal seemed a suitable target for him to focus on. Also, it might come useful later on. And all in all, I do think Cypress is very, very arrogant, and that's what comes to bite him here, too. And I'll admit writing arrogant Cypress is fun.

 photo Villains_chapter_1_339-720x450_zps1be343c9.jpg
Another point of uncertainty for me was Marielle's reaction to Cypress' suggestion on how she has been promotion. I know she has a thing against prostitutes, so I decided she would take it so that Cypress was comparing her to one, which would of course be a terrible insult to her. Otherwise her sexual morals are less straightforward to figure out (she was fine with having an affair, after all), so unless she would have made that particular inference then she maybe wouldn't have reacted that way. But, it made sense to me so that's how I did it. Also, Seth has not as much information as I do, so he would probably think she has similar morals as Rodney does in general as well.

As I'm confessing stuff, I might also say that probably it shows that Seth and Cypress somehow speak to me loudest of the four. Marielle and Rodney are a bit more on the background, partly because of that and partly because I do think Cypress and Seth would tend to be a bit more dominating. I hope to bring the other two a bit forward in the future.

Finally, let us have some funny outtakes.

 photo Villains_chapter_1_407-720x450_zps41bc0131.jpg
I have a feeling that the Ryman universe is trying to take over my game. First I had Christian (who's admittedly also my Curty) get into fights with Seth - he still comes over sometimes to poke Seth and to play pool - then Rodney brings home my version of Jesspret. Multiple times, actually. I had to ask her to leave this time before she made everyone but Rodney mad.

 photo Villains_chapter_1_369-720x450_zpsa2014ed7.jpg
And then this lady. Looking quickly, my first thought was "what's Kimmy doing in here?". Thankfully it was just a hobby leader for something or the other. The villain concentration here is quite high enough as it is, thank you very much.

 photo Villains_chapter_1_380-720x450_zpsf471e44a.jpg
Contrary to what it may seem in the story, everyone actually comes along. (Well I guess the rest actually come along just fine in the story too, but no one likes Cypress too much, and he doesn't like them, of course. :P ) That somehow always tends to happen in my command. And having played them, I'm sort of fond of them now, as sims if not always as characters. Even Cypress the sim is somehow... endearing, even though I definitely wouldn't say that of the character.

The main reason I had the villains get to the top of their respective careers was the clothing. I thought it would be useful in future photos. Though in the case of Seth, I don't think I will be showing him looking like this. :D

He's in Entertainment. I would have put him in Show Business, since that's more the actor business I think, but I wasn't sure how safe it would be to cheat him into that career since he hasn't been to college. Oh well.

A couple of pictures mostly for [livejournal.com profile] mzyra, to show how adorkable her villains can be.

Loki, I wouldn't steal that newspaper if I were you... I know you're supposed to be a bad guy of sorts, but really, you're out-villained in here.

Okay, I think that's just about all for this chapter. Now I guess the next step is to go back to arranging the next Bookacy chapter and playing the rotation. Fun times!
