Prompt: What's not to like? (esmeiolanthe)
Words: 636
Universe: canon Strangetown, shortly after Bim has moved in (so a little bit into the future, but not really spoilery)
Warnings: none
Nothing much to say about this one, more Strangetown. :) And cuteness too I'd say.
The more of the house he showed to his newlywed wife, the more Salahuddin's mood sank.
"Here we have the balcony. It is rather small. Here is also the only place where I have been able to have running water, these two sinks here and here. It is rather cold for washing yourself, and it is rather exposed to any passers by, but I do not suppose there will be too many of those, and it is probably high enough so that it would be difficult to see from the ground..."
"Don't worry about it, honey. It's perfectly fine", she smiled and squeezed his hand.
Salahuddin felt a little bit relieved, but not for long, as they stepped back inside and continued the tour. He went on showing Bim the different rooms, saying things like: "The bedroom is not much, the bed could be better, but it was all that I could find", or "I forgot to mention about the recliner, it is best to sit down a little bit carefully, as I am not sure how strong it is. I found it abandoned by the road." Bim, for her part, nodded and said a few encouraging words here and there. Somehow, she seemed intensely interested in everything.
Finally, they came back to the livingroom and sat down by the dining table, if one could call the ugly plastic thing that. Salahuddin finished: "And you saw the chess board outside, and the car. The chess game has most pieces, so it is mostly playable. Oh, and if you wish to drive, please inform me first. There are some things that you should know, in case it refuses to run smoothly, or one of the doors will not close properly."
Bim nodded again and said "Okay, thanks. I will." She smiled happily and patted his hand.
Salahuddin was silent for a long time. Finally he said: "Bim, I am so sorry. I wish I could provide something better than... this", he gestured around.
Bim looked surprised. "Sal, are you really, seriously worrying about that?" she asked, taking both his hands. "Listen, honey. I understand that you'd love us to have an ordinary life, a nice house, a couple of kids and a dog."
Salahuddin had to laugh a little at that.
"I know you'd love to be able to 'provide' for the family, for me. And I appreciate it, I really do", she continued. "But honey, the circumstances are apocalyptic, and I mean it. What you have managed already is honestly pretty amazing, I'm sure most sims don't have it this good right now. I know I didn't before I came to move in with you. Think about it. We have shelter. We have food. We have water. We even have a little bit of electricity, enough for the radio, and even sporadic access to the phone lines. That is something extraordinary right now."
"I know, darling, but..."
Bim's expression went soft. "Sal, think of it this way. We may not have what we are both used to in the material sense, but we have a lot by the current standards, and I'm sure things will get better eventually. We can both work towards that. And you know what else we have? We have each other. I love you, Sal, and I know you love me too. We are together, and safe, at least relatively speaking. We have a home of our own, and even though the dream house we imagined when you were still a student, it's ours. A home that you've worked hard for, with me in mind, and one that I'll help make as comfortable as possible. What else could I possibly want for?"
Salahuddin couldn't help but smile. "Thank you, darling", he said, lifting her hand on his lips and kissing it lightly.

Date: Oct. 29th, 2014 02:02 am (UTC)I'm glad Sal is finally getting to be with someone he loves. Yes, he's a villain in the main story, but he's not a bad guy, if that makes sense.
PS: Awwwwwwwwwww! :')

Date: Oct. 29th, 2014 08:59 pm (UTC)Yes, absolutely! Sal is a sort of a villain of circumstance. He's not a bad guy at heart, but in my main story he's quite messed up. I'm glad to see him happy in an alternative universe of sorts myself.
Thanks for reading and commenting!

Date: Nov. 3rd, 2014 04:53 pm (UTC)Welcome to the main story as well! This one is a bit complicated; Sal is originally from The Bookacy Family Alphabet Adventures (an alphabet legacy challenge), where he's the long-standing bad guy, but the main story that this piece refers to is Villains or Heroes?, which is an apocalypse challenge founded by Sal. The latter is only a couple of chapters along, and can be read independently, while the former is already quite long (the latest chapter, 40, is a recap).
In any case, thanks again for reading and commenting! :)
