Well, no simming news this week. Unless you count the bit where everyone else seems to be on an update spree while I'm away. :P Well, lots of stuff for me to catch up on then.

As for real life, things are progressing. The move is in two weeks, and I have a moving company. I'm getting the boxes in a week. I've made the official change of address, picked up change-of-address cards from the mail, made an electricity contract, ended my web contract for this address, dusted and piled a lot of books and un-built most of my bookshelf, gone through some drawers and shredded a lot of old papers, rummaged through my storage space, brought some useful stuff to the apartment and tried to sell some of the stuff that I don't need anymore, thrown some away.

So yeah, a lot has been done, and a lot is still to be done in the coming two weeks. But at least on the paperwork side I'm already doing quite well, and I'm not panicking about the packing either, at least not yet. I can do this! *\o/*
katrisims: (basic)
Well, as you can probably guess by the previous post, there hasn't really been any simming progress. I wasn't expecting any, either.

Otherwise, there has been nice progress, however. As of yesterday, I have an apartment based on oral agreement. As of today, I've officially got it: I've signed the lease, gotten an insurance for the new apartment (and terminated my old insurance) and paid the deposit. I've also sent a request for offers to moving companies via a handy web service. (The new place is 200 kilometres away, so there's no way I'm doing it with a rented van and a couple of friends.)

So, truly not bad for a couple of days' progress. At the moment my outlook on the move is quite positive. Let's see if the desperation sets in when I have to actually pack... Well, that's a worry for another day!
katrisims: (basic)
I suppose I could sit down and type this since it's too late to actually do anything useful tonight.

So I've been mentioning that there's some real life stuff going on, some positive stuff. Well, it's now official and I've made the announcement IRL, so it should be increasingly unlikely that anyone would accidentally find out by reading my sims blog. So here goes.

This is the news: I'm changing jobs, and while I'm at it, moving to the capital. It's a change I've been contemplating for a longish while for several reasons, some of them professional, some personal. It sort of felt like my life's been glitching pretty heavily in the recent years, so in the end I ended up doing a rebuild. (You know, at some point the carpool refused to let me return home, so I needed to forcefully delete myself, later there's been a lack of walkbys, the like. Yeah, I kinda like the metaphor.)

Right now the situation is that I have a job, and as of today, it seems I also have an apartment. There's a billion things to be taken care of, but my biggest worry, finding a place, should be history now. I'm stressed, but at the same time content that things are finally moving on.

So probably there'll be very little time for simming activities in the immediate future I would predict. Still, I'll try to pop by at least once a week to check up on things. If I've nothing to report simming-wise, I could babble a bit about real life.

Anyway, that's what's going on, so if I'm quieter than usual, I'm not dead, just busy!
katrisims: (basic)
This week, I've been taking a break. I haven't really felt like simming, so I haven't as much as opened my simming computer. Early in the week my new Harry Potter arrived in the mail, so I obviously had to read it (it was quite enjoyable). Afterwards, I didn't really feel like simming, so I sort of half-consiously decided I would take a break this week. Besides, I've been pretty busy too. Now in the weekend, my sister and my brother-in-law were visiting, and I went to watch them take part in a sports competition. That was fun, and made me think I should maybe try jogging again. We'll see how that goes.

So I do think I maybe overdid it a bit during the vacation. But that's okay, as is taking a break. I'm not sure how I will feel next week, but I'll be sure to return to simming sooner or later. I always do, so I'm positive.
katrisims: (basic)

For the sake of completeness, have a non-progress report for the past week. There was no simming, because I spent the first week of my summer holiday in Rome. It was a very hot week (around 35 degrees centigrade and sunny), but being careful to take a siesta every day, a very enjoyable one. I just returned this evening, so unpacking and laundry are ongoing.

I've still got a few weeks of vacation time left for the summer, so I'd expect some progress in the coming weeks. :) I plan to start by catching up on replies, reading and commenting in the next few days.

Ok, so confession time: zero simming this week. I sort of forgot last weekend when writing the last weekly simming that this week was already vappu week. Vappu, as in May Day, a celebration on par with New Year's and Midsummer's here in Finland. It was this weekend, and I got to meet some friends and enjoy the great weather, so all in all a great time.

Another excuse, with possible overdose of nostalgy )

So yeah, excuses, but good ones at least in my opinion. ;) Maybe I'll have more time for simming next week.

After the flu, I got a... whatever that might be called in English... a stuck nerve, maybe? Anyway, I had a really stiff neck and a consequent headache, which took several days to go away. So again, during the week I didn't do much, just went to work and spent the evenings trying to get better. Finally, around Thursday or so, I was painless.

It's been a rough couple of weeks, so I took it really easy this weekend. I didn't do much anything, slept a lot. Well I did clean so I wouldn't drown in dust bunnies. But not much else. I have been writing some yesterday and today, so maybe I'll actually post a Lakewood update some time again. I really should keep up with the habit of writing as I play, seeing how lazy I am when it comes to just writing. Oh well.

Still a bit uninspired, too, but maybe it's getting better. At least I think I've written more this weekend than the last. I suppose these inactive seasons are something that happens with me, but I do wish this one was over already. But trotting along, still.
katrisims: (basic)
Excuses, excuses... Guess what happened in the beginning of the week, just as I thought I'd get back into the swing of things? Well, I promptly got sick. Not the kind of sick that gives you fever and puts you into bedrest, just the kind of sick that makes you tired and annoyed and trying to do the normal things anyway. If I didn't go to work, I'd feel guilty because I'm not "sick enough", and when I do, I feel guilty because that may make someone else sick. *sigh* Anyway, that has left me pretty useless in the evenings this week, not having the energy to do anything simming-related. Or much anything, really.

Now in the weekend I've been better, even managing to go to the yearly book fair today, as I planned. (Yay!) Yesterday I managed to write a little bit for the next Lakewood update. I don't like how the gap between updates is growing here, too, but on the other hand, I've been feeling a bit uninspired and lazy, too.

Well, really only one thing to do: try again. I think I'll see if I can write a little bit more yet tonight. And then there's always next week.
katrisims: (happy)
Well, this isn't much of a weekly simming really. This week was even busier than I expected, so I didn't really sim.

I theoretically had time to do sim stuff on one evening, and I did get maybe two pictures captioned before finding I was spacing out and staring at a wall more than I was writing. So I came to the conclusion that I was too tired and gave up. So that's all.

The reason why I was so busy is my sister's wedding was this weekend, and there were still a lot of last minute things to do, and of course the actual wedding. But in the end everything went beautifully, and it was a pretty awesome day. :)

Well, I suppose I'll wrap up here since there isn't much to report. With the wedding done with, maybe I'll actually find time for simming once I'm out of recovery mode. :P I hope so. :)
katrisims: (basic)
So, as I said last time, this week was kind of busy when it comes to real life. I was on a business trip from Monday to Tuesday, and kind of recovering from that the rest of the week. When it comes to free time, I had my first French class on Thursday and I thoroughly enjoyed it. (I studied French in high school, but have since then just about forgotten everything, and want to brush up my skills.)

I've also been a bit distracted by other games (especially since I've been tired in the evenings), but I did manage some progress today. I allllmost finished the rotation for the Davidsons, and wrote a little bit too. I'll have some catching up to do with writing afterwards, but thankfully just a rotation worth. Once I get to it, it goes pretty quickly, at least has so far.

But goodness, I didn't even remember how hard the toddler training is without smart milk! I'm not sure if I regret choosing the no aspiration rewards handicap or not. On the one hand, it feels like so much work, on the other, it feels like an actual challenge, too. I think out of all the aspiration rewards, I really miss two the most: elixir and smart milk. Not that surprising I suppose. Anyway, by my usual playstyle, the Davidsons' oldest child should be a kid now, but there's still the nursery rhyme to go! Well, we'll see how that goes.

I'm not sure about next week, but hopefully it isn't as busy as this week. I've been a little distracted lately, but again, playing was fun when I did actually play. So maybe more progress next week? Maybe.
katrisims: (basic)
I'll confess, I didn't actually sim much this week. I had a kind of a bad start of the week. Long story short, it was a peak in unhappiness about how I look, my weight etc. Kind of stupid really, but I was pretty upset in the beginning of the week. It's gotten better since, and I'm trying to do something about it, so it'll be ok.

Anyway. So during the week I didn't sim much, actually mostly played Civ V online with my sister. I guess I felt like taking a break. I did sim a bit during the weekend, started playing the second week for the Davidsons. And I wrote a little bit too, though not a substantial amount. Playing was fun and there was progress, so that's all good.

Also, Lakewood: Just a BaCC got selected as a featured story over at Boolprop, so I got to answer questions on a short interview one evening. (Features are picked randomly from stories updated after the last features.) It was nice, helped me get my mind off things for a bit. Just checking back now, it seems the features post is up, so if you want to read my interview, along with a couple of others, now you can. :)

That's all this week I think. We'll be back next week!
katrisims: (basic)
As I suspected, not really much to report this week either. I didn't actually sim, but I did manage to write and publish the rest of the Lakewood update. So that's progress, and I'm content with that. :) Oh, and I did also start writing Dirk's first college update, maybe six or seven slides, too lazy/tired to turn on the other machine and check.

I did mean to sim today, but since it's the day after my sister's bachelorette party... Maybe I was a bit optimistic about my energy levels. :D Anyway, next week should be a little quieter, so hopefully that means some progress.
katrisims: (basic)
This post is mostly because I'm a completist; there isn't really that much to report for last week. (And yes, as suspected, I missed my usual reporting day, as I was out of town.) I did manage to update on Tuesday before I left for vacation, but that's really all I had time for sims-wise. I'm still pretty content I got that out of the way.

I was away on vacation, spent a few days in Stockholm and then on the way back visited my sister. I had a really nice and relaxing time, mostly just walked around and looked what I came across that way. Everything went nicely, save for the fact that I managed to twist my ankle, so it was sore for a couple of days, especially with all the walking. But now its gotten a couple of days of rest at my sister's, so I think it's starting to be all better again.

I arrived back home today and have been mostly in recovery mode, unpacking, washing laundry etc. Now begins my staycation, we'll see see how much progress I can manage. :)
katrisims: (happy)
So, for those who have been following my job-seeking endeavors: I had the contract negotiation today, and it went well. :) I've signed my first permanent work contract, for a position in my home town. That's something to be really happy about. It starts next week, and now I'm on a few vacation days from my previous temp job, my last day there was yesterday. So good timing, too.

Now I'm planning to take it easy for these next few days and get used to the idea of being back home again, not having to commute and all that. I'm itching to do something with my sims, too. It's been *ages*.

So, all in all, not a bad day today!
katrisims: (basic)
... well, technically, I don't think I've downloaded a single deer. So far. But anyway. Since I've been a bit quiet lately, I thought I'd write something about what I've been doing, sims-wise and otherwise.

Some sims, some real life )

So yeah. I think that was the long-winded way of saying what's up with me. I'm alright, and I hope you're doing alright, too!

I made it

I meant to post earlier, but I've been in recovery mode pretty much all weekend. :P It seems everything went well: I didn't rip my dress or fall over, my shoes stayed on, we had no technical problems and there was the right kind of food for the right people at the after-party. And my opponent warmly recommends that my thesis be accepted. Yeah, that too. ;)

It was really kind of fun, to get to talk about the work, and I was much less nervous than I expected. I'm generally a worrywart, so it's quite surprising how relaxed I was pretty much throughout. No complaints about that! And the after-party was a lot of fun, first the official part with dinner, then I got to spend time with some friends and relatives too. And apparently the friends and relatives weren't bored to death either, even at the defence itself, so that's a plus.

So once the university bureucracy runs its course, I should be getting my degree. And that's that. Wow. Anyhow, now I'm hoping to see some simming in my rather immediate future. :)

Just busy

You know, they usual: not dead, just busy.

There's of course work, but also, in four days or so, I'm defending my PhD thesis. And that kind of has a lot of stuff I need to take care of.

Speeches both in the defence and in the after-party, seating arrangements at the after-party, seating cards, finding out what everyone is eating and communicating that to the restaurant, taking the theses to the university, agreeing with the opponent about schedules... Fortunately things are under control, it's starting to look like I'll be done with everything in time. And also I suppose it's a good thing I'm busy with the arrangements, so I don't have time to panic about the defence itself. ;)

So yup, I'm still alive. I hope that's still the case after Thursday. :D

All set up

Aug. 4th, 2014 09:11 pm
katrisims: (basic)
I'm now all settled in my temp place, and so far, I'm liking everything: the place, the work, all of it. It's been a while since I've been this content.

And I did decide to take the simming computer with me, my parents brought it with the car last week. It took a while to set things up (I left my screen at home and use the tv here), and for some reason I still don't have sound, but I can live with that. Just today I got internet set up on this machine, so I suppose I'm all good to go.

I don't necessarily have that much of time, especially in the nearest future, since some things about the defence still require my attention, but at least now I can make a bit of progress here and there in the evenings. So at least my sporadic picspams will continue. :) And I really should do that BTS some time... (Bad Katri!)

Slowly but surely, things will move on.
katrisims: (basic)
I've gotten past Chris and Cyrus' wedding in the recap, so not much more left. Woo! Also, I'm on, like, 230 slides now. Maybe 240 or so will be the count after I add the rest. Whoops? I'm going to have to try and cut it down a little bit, it's pretty insane. But I suspect I won't be able to do that much, there's just so. much. plot. So I guess in the end I'll have to apologize for the length and let it be. (And try to do a recap sooner next time. :P ) At least it should cover everything important and get people thoroughly reminded/caught up.

There may be a bit of a delay yet, though. You see, my thesis finally came back from review (both reviewers recommending that it be granted printing permission, yay!), so I need to do the final fixes for it and wade through a lot of red tape and whatnot. At least it's a happy reason. :) And at this point, I'm so close with the update (well the thesis too) that I can't not make it eventually. :P

Still here

I thought maybe it was time to actually say something. So... "something"? As you may have noticed, I haven't been around much. Or, I have been following what's going on and commenting with my usual delay, but I haven't posted anything myself.

I haven't really done any simming recently either, or writing. Basically, I haven't felt like it. Taking care of real life has been a priority, and although there has been a certain amount of waiting around (maybe I'll get around writing something about it f-locked one of these days), I've found myself preferring simple relaxation and entertainment over project-type hobbies. So I've played Civ 5, or some game on my Wii, or done some other such thing.

Today was actually the first time I've opened my simming computer for... maybe a month or so. It was getting dusty. :P I miss my simmies, and today I'm actually feeling like maybe doing something with them. We'll see how far I get with that. I'm also contemplating maybe joining SimStoCremo next month. I may have a lot of time in my hands then, so maybe. Of course, last time I tried it, I ended up having an extended writer's block, so I'm a bit wary too. I suppose by the end of the month I'll be ready to decide.

So yeah. Nothing hugely much to say still. But I'm still here, and not intending to go anywhere. And I'm glad you're still there too. ^^
