Six years ago today, Author Bookacy walked out of CAS. It's been a long time.

I sort of hoped to have something nice for today, but alas, it was not to be. Thankfully, I think I'm mostly better now, but real life is taking most of my energy. Maybe now that the flu is just about gone I can actually at least think about doing something about these things.

Anyway, I didn't have that much to say. Just basically: it's been a long time. Happy legaversary to me. *blows party horn*

Okay, so. My last Poker face card was "1000 words or less", and I was originally a bit uninspired. You know, since those 1000 words or less could be about anything. So I went looking for inspiration, and remembered that I have plenty of unused, perfectly good prompts from the two previous Myshuno events, so why not use one of them?

This prompt is Getting married to the wrong person and it's from my 2011 Myshuno card. And actually, it's an even older weekly simspiration prompt that I included in the card because well, with the storyline I was writing back then, it obviously inspired me. I had every intention of writing that prompt then, almost two years ago, but somehow never did, as was the case with several other interesting prompts.

So what can I say, here it is now? It's another angle on a rather big event, an angle I never showed in the story itself, but kind of wanted to. This is approximately how it is in my head.

I can't )
katrisims: (basic)
This was a very hard one for me. First to figure out what to write about with such a vague prompt (and my last remaining one is "1000 words or less", oh man...), then to actually do it. Future tense isn't very natural to me, it seems, and in fact I had to allow for a couple of present tense verbs that refer to the future to avoid blatant overuse of "will". (Actually, there is still a blatant overuse of it, and it doesn't feel entirely fluent to me.) I could have written much longer about this conversation, but I had to leave out things that would necessarily have been in the wrong tense.

Anyway, what do you do when you need to write about the future but don't want to spoil it for the audience? You just go far enough in the past. So this one is canon Alphabetia, from the times of generation A, when the founders were still alive.

The dark future )

... I have black on white that I have a rough idea of how I think the apocalypse will end. And *cough* actually, the legacy, at that.

Kind of crazy, but I've had these ideas in my head for probably a better part of a year. I had an idea for the legacy earlier, but since I started the apocalypse, I got a new one, and I think in at least some respects better. Today, I sat down and sketched it all in an OO text document. It'll be interesting to see in what ways it'll change along the way.

Currently I especially like the way the apocalypse would end. There's a couple things that kind of bother me about the potential legacy ending, but as a general idea, I like that too.

So now I know the guidelines for what I will be doing from the retirement home then. Perhaps I should get back to what I think I should be doing now, writing and shooting for the apocalypse chapter. :P To be fair, though, I needed to sketch out the direction I want the apocalypse to take before I could know what to put in the chapter. Now we'll see if that helps.
katrisims: (basic)
Ok, so I should be writing the chapter. Or my poker face entries. Or something. But I've been procastrinating, because I had and idea and had to get to it. I suspect you'll be seeing the result of my procastrination at one point or another.

Anyway, today the thing I've been procastrinating with gave me an idea. An utterly silly one, but one I absolutely wanted to do, once I realized it does fit with one of my poker face cards: "pictures-only". So under the cut is my pictures-only entry. The story should be a rather familiar one, I hope you can recognize it. :)

Good old times )
katrisims: (basic)
Time for the traditional outtakes and BTS post! Not terribly much to talk about, as this chapter has been more towards observational, but I figured we could still have some fun outtakes and babble a bit.

About 30 pictures )

Alright, I think that's about it for today's BTS. Now it's back to playing the main house and arranging the first actual apocalypse chapter. Happy simming!

Update!

Guess what? It seems I was closer to ready than I thought, and managed to get my butt in gear at last. So here you have a Bookacy update, I hope you enjoy!

For the best picture quality, I recommend either the Scribd version, or you should be able to download the PDF as well.
katrisims: (basic)
Just a quick note before bed that I've updated the download archive. It now includes all generation C adults (and Charlie, who WOULD be an adult if it wasn't for plot...), and a couple of younger generation Bs who didn't yet have secondary aspirations got those while I was at it. The rest of generation Cs will be growing up with generation D, and will be added when they're adults. I realized I won't be sending generation D to college by the end of the year as I was resolving, so I wanted to get something else done. It took me most of the weekend, but now it's done and all up to date. Yay!

So in case anyone would like to have some simmies, now you can! And in case my neighborhood goes kaboom, I can, too. And now I'm off to bed. G'night!
katrisims: (Sal)
Okay, first of all, sorry about the radio silence. Work has been pretty busy lately, and on my free time I've been in Thesis Proofread Mode again. Hence very little time to sim. At least the thesis is now proofread, so my part on that is over, so hopefully I'll be able to do more sims related stuff now.

Also, I come bearing gifts! First off, we have a brief interlude for the Bookacies:

And secondly, something quite different! May I present, the first part of my Sekrit Project I've been mentioning for a pretty long time:

When it comes to the latter, I'd like to thank (in alphabetical order) [livejournal.com profile] dicreasy, [livejournal.com profile] docnerd and [livejournal.com profile] mzyra for the use of their characters. And I'd like to apologize, in advance, about not always getting them right. Also, thanks for their house go to Orikes.

Both parts are available both on Slideshare and on Scribd. I personally recommend the Scribd versions, apparently the Slideshare ones are rather bad these days...

EDIT: I also recommend reading them in this order if you follow the Bookacies. :) Villains or Heroes? can also be read independently. Warning: Bad guys use bad words occasionally, but nothing too extreme.

I hope you enjoy!

And now for something completely different!

Excitement and a couple of pics! )
katrisims: (Default)
Okay, so. As I'm currently back on track with my simming stuff, caught up with comments and replies or just about, playing the Alphabetia rotation and actually getting started with the sekrit project, I thought I should maybe post a bit of BTS. It's not a huge thing this go around, for the most part I used actual gameplay pictures and used most of what I took, but I hope you enjoy this mini-BTS anyway.

BTS this way, spoilery for chapter 37, plus a random piece of awesome at the end )

Okay, back to our regularly scheduled simming, and for me, back to working on the sekrit project!
katrisims: (bookacy)
Okay, so I should be at bed already, have an early morning tomorrow, but I wanted to squeeze the update together.

The cover slide on Slideshare looks a bit wonky, not sure why and I don't have time to investigate now. Sorry about that. It seems this time Slideshare would work and Scribd wouldn't. These things are odd.

Anyway, I hope it works and hope you enjoy! If you'd like to comment, you can do so here or in my boolprop thread.

So we have a three-day weekend here (it's midsummernight's eve today), and what do I do? Well I promptly fall ill, of course. Nice, I'm apparently such a good employee that I don't even get sick on the employer's time. *grumbles*

Oh well. I meant to be working on the update this weekend, but at least yet I haven't quite felt up to it - for some reason I feel I should have a working brain when I try to write the update. Suppose that's optional, though. So anyway, I've been thinking I should do this generation's who's who one of these times, so why not now. Generation C is so big already that I have to split it in parts. This time, we'll cover the main line and the first cousins, and I'll do the second cousins at a later time. I apologize in advance if there's anything braindead in the below, I blame the flu.

11 sims and plenty of pictures under the cut. (May also involve some spoilers if you haven't read the latest chapters.)

Who's who in Generation C first circle? )

So that's who's who in the first circle. As I said earlier, I'll do the second cousins at a later time. Now back to sneezing, coughing and pondering about sekrit projects.

Someone grew up. :) The transition outfit might be a bit unfortunate, but actually, everything else went better this time around. You know, no missing placeholders, no outfit/aging wonkiness. As an added bonus, this time around the streaker came by and the cow mascot managed to get a pillow fight in edgewise and thus make her stay on the lot, so both Nicholas and Cho now know the streaker. Which is nice, as she's an NPC and somewhat hard to catch.

So all in all, things are good again in Alphabetia. :)

Gah

Good thing I just took a backup. I played last night to the point where Nicholas graduated and moved in to the main house. There was an odd flash on my screen (actually, the game screen disappeared for a few moments and I was afraid the game had crashed) during my final save before I left the Greek House and went to the main house, but since the save did eventually finish and I got to the neighborhood screen okay, I didn't think much of it at that time.

Longish rant this way )

So yeah, I'm just a tiny little bit pissed at my game right now. Good thing I just took a backup, I shudder at the thought of what everything I would have needed to redo otherwise. Sorry about the whining, and thanks for listening. Needed to vent.

So in the end of the picspam yesterday, I believe I promised you some "hood babbles". Well, in the end I got my maintenance stuff done yesterday, so now I get to babble some and play more.

My maintenance included taking a full backup, removing gossip, downloading few hacks and defaults I've been meaning to, and installing the three SPs my sister got me for my birthday last month. That seems to have gone smoothly. In addition, I stumbled onto something pretty neat just a couple of days ago and realized it was EXACTLY what I needed.

I might have shown you before; this is what Alphabetia looked like yet yesterday evening. But, this is not what it looks like anymore!

Few more pics and babble this way )

So such is the state of Alphabetia currently. :)
katrisims: (Default)
Okay, so now that I'm finally done with that huge double update I've been working on for ages, I thought I should maybe do some BTS/meta/outtakes picspam on the double update. There's some stuff I've been sitting on for... I don't even know how long and I'm anxious to get to talk about it. :) The following is veeeeery spoilery for chapters 35 & 36, so clicky on the cut at your own risk if you've not read the double update yet!

BTS/meta this way! )
katrisims: (bookacy)
Ha! Finally I got all the writing done, and come bearing a double update!

Slideshare went all YOU SHALL NOT PASS at me with its 20 MB rule (even though I think all my updates are 20+ MB...), hence Scribd. Sorry if that's an inconvienience. Anyway, I hope you enjoy! If you would like to comment, feel free to do so here or at my Boolprop thread, whichever way you prefer.

(Also, lookie, I have a banner for my DW. :) )

Progress!

Progress is being made, hooray for progress!

So as I have been mentioning, I've been playing the rotation as I write the double update, sort of alternating the two. It seems to work kind of nicely, I don't get bored with either. And the time when my game loads/saves/switches households is time well spent writing on the laptop.

Anyway! I've just today played the rotation through Chris and Cyrus, for which I was very excited. I'll probably do some sort of rotational picspam after I get the chapter out (and probably mostly uncommented, since I'll have a big backlog by then), but I thought I could share a few things from these two now. You know, the part where they *gasp* get married and stuff.

Why Chris and Cyrus' REAL wedding won't make the chapter (very mildly spoilery, though not really) )

Writing progress babble )

So all in all, things are moving forward, both in game and in writing. Not bad!
