Okay, first of all, sorry about the radio silence. Work has been pretty busy lately, and on my free time I've been in Thesis Proofread Mode again. Hence very little time to sim. At least the thesis is now proofread, so my part on that is over, so hopefully I'll be able to do more sims related stuff now.

Also, I come bearing gifts! First off, we have a brief interlude for the Bookacies:

And secondly, something quite different! May I present, the first part of my Sekrit Project I've been mentioning for a pretty long time:

When it comes to the latter, I'd like to thank (in alphabetical order) [livejournal.com profile] dicreasy, [livejournal.com profile] docnerd and [livejournal.com profile] mzyra for the use of their characters. And I'd like to apologize, in advance, about not always getting them right. Also, thanks for their house go to Orikes.

Both parts are available both on Slideshare and on Scribd. I personally recommend the Scribd versions, apparently the Slideshare ones are rather bad these days...

EDIT: I also recommend reading them in this order if you follow the Bookacies. :) Villains or Heroes? can also be read independently. Warning: Bad guys use bad words occasionally, but nothing too extreme.

I hope you enjoy!

Continuing on a theme here...

I'd be suspicious of the cake, but... it's the thought that counts, right? (Mine, not Cy's. He'd disapprove, but unfortunately for him, I control the pie menu.)

So yeah, happy birthday, Doc, I hope you're having a great day!
katrisims: (myshuno)
Prompt: What goes around comes around (hcbirce)
Words: 939
Universe: could be canon, sometime after Cho and Nicholas' wedding
Warnings: Gloom

This one's a bit on the gloomier side, but I gotta do one of those every now and then, right? I'm not sure if I'm entirely happy with this, but I can't put a finger on why. Oh well, here's the piece anyway.

Do you ever feel sorry for him? )

And with that, I get to claim a Myshuno! Proof:

Card again )

And now for something completely different!

Excitement and a couple of pics! )
katrisims: (myshuno)
Prompt: "And that's how it happened." (superfr0g)
Words: 429
Universe: could be canon, during gen. D's childhood
Warnings: Silliness

Another kind of silly one. These two have not really appeared in chapters much, they are very much background characters at this point. But Clarissa is one of my gen. C second cousins, and Daniel is her son with boyfriend Glen (Author+Curty -> Arthur+Meadow -> Bonnie+Thomas -> Clarissa+Glen -> Daniel). And as a clarification to the short that follows: he's got to have quite a bunch by now.

Mystery newspapers )
katrisims: (myshuno)
Prompt: Inappropriate flirting (docnerd)
Words: 860
Universe: not official canon, but this basically did happen in my game, shortly after Cho returned from college
Warnings: Silliness

Okay, this one's just plain silly. You might remember something like this happening at some point. That'd be because it did, I just didn't include it in a chapter. I talked about it towards the end of this picspam. Anyway, silliness ahoy!

You're one to talk )
katrisims: (myshuno)
Prompt: Chris trying to subtly convey her feelings for Cyrus (docnerd)
Words: 730
Universe: could be considered canon, during generation C's college years
Warnings: overdose of obliviousness

My second prompt already, yay! Had to think about this one a bit. The obliviousness is sort of hard to write, even though I tend to be the same way myself. Maybe that's why.

Four letter word )
katrisims: (myshuno)
Prompt: Dirk and Eric (biglenny)
Words: 795
Universe: could be considered canon Alphabetia I guess, for example while Cho and Nicholas were on their Twikkii trip
Warnings: Other than a slight cuteness attack, none that I can think of

This was surprisingly easy. It just came out of my head in just about one go. At least this year I'm not starting on a gloomy note!

All kinds of families )
katrisims: (myshuno)
Since people seem to be posting their Myshuno! cards, I finally remembered to make mine.

Card! )

This is a little bit early, but since tomorrow is a working day, my time might be limited. Anyway, happy birthday, Jess, from me and these two who may or may not be up to something. :) I hope it's a great one!
katrisims: (Default)
I went ahead and signed up for the Myshuno! challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] sim_spiration again. Last year, I managed to score a Myshuno! though not a blackout. We'll see how well I do this year.

If you feel like prompting me, my thread is here. :) Thanks! Also, while you're at it, you can also join yourself!

Now to get some shuteye, and maybe to think of more prompts tomorrow. G'night!

Meme time! This seemed fun, so I stole it from [livejournal.com profile] mzyra (originally by [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]).

Keeping up with our own plots and spoilers can be a hard task. What can I say so I don't spoil it all? What have I already said? Will anyone remember what I said about this seven chapters ago? So, I'd be curious to know what you know.

So, what do you know about the future of my legacy, what spoilers have I given out that you remember? Also, what you don't know you can always speculate based on what you do know. :) Oh and if you haven't actually read my legacy, you could always tell me what you've picked up about it otherwise.

I'll be screening the replies and won't be replying to them, to avoid spoiling anyone more than I already have, so no worries about that. Feel free to turn the tables on me and post the meme yourself, too!

Yes, it's September 2nd again. Five years ago today, Author Bookacy walked out of CAS and started her alphabetacy. Can you believe it's been five years? I sure can't. I just calculated the other day that if I keep going at my current pace (about a generation per year on average, or actually a little less), I'll be close to retirement age by the time I finish this challenge. Umm... Well maybe I can then pick up a new hobby when I retire or something?

I was hoping I'd have something for you today, but alas, it turned out I wouldn't. I guess I could have posted the brief interlude, but since it's kind of tightly bound to the spinoff, I want to be absolutely sure I won't be miserably failing with it at least right away before I post that. And I can't be absolutely sure yet. So instead of an update, you get ramblings. Yay?

All in all, I suppose it's going okay on the sims front. I've been working on the side project (you never realize how much work something is before you actually start doing it, do you?) and playing the rotation forward in Alphabetia. I've got about 60 slides written and about 100 arranged for the prologue, so that's something. But there's a long way to go still, and I'm not terribly happy with what I've written so far, it needs work. As for Alphabetia, I've got five more houses to go before I'm done with the spring. In the summer, I'll get to my first teenings of gen. D, which makes me pretty excited. So, not bad progress, actually. Maybe I should post picspam or something, but I haven't felt up for it yet; I'm definitely not posting as many pictures as I have in the rotational picspam, it'd drive us all nuts.

As for real life, well, that's been okay too. Work's work, thankfully that hasn't been utterly crazy lately. And what I'm quite happy about is I've been able to stick to my excercise still. Actually, I took part in a sports event last weekend, a mini-triathlon (about half of the sprint distance competition distances, so nicely fit for a newbie), and didn't die, faint or throw up. So I quite think I deserved a medal - and in fact, I got one. Very nice thinking from the organizers on that one, you wouldn't think receiving a medal for crossing the finish line makes a difference for an adult person, but apparently it does. I was pretty pleased. Me and my sister are already pondering which similar event we'll partake next year, since this one was definitely a success. It was both fun and managed to keep us both motivated and make us stick to practising.

So such is going on here. Slow and steady.

Oh, before I forget: has anyone been having trouble with Boolprop lately? My antivirus has been blocking the site as "harmful" for the past week or so, and I haven't dared to go there despite the warning since I don't know what's up. Just wondering if anyone knows anything.

Guess who?

Anyone fancy a game of "guess the parents"?

Her name is Dani, and she was born and subsequently grown into a toddler yesterday evening. As hints, the eye color comes from her father, the hair color from both parents, and the skintone is between the parents'. I'm pretty excited about her, and about the fact I got a girl. The current situation for generation D stands at 19 boys and 7 girls.

So what else is new? )

Slowly but surely stuff keeps happening. Now I've yet got this evening to work on my sims stuff before work again starts interfering with my hobbies. So better get back to that!
katrisims: (Default)
Okay, so. As I'm currently back on track with my simming stuff, caught up with comments and replies or just about, playing the Alphabetia rotation and actually getting started with the sekrit project, I thought I should maybe post a bit of BTS. It's not a huge thing this go around, for the most part I used actual gameplay pictures and used most of what I took, but I hope you enjoy this mini-BTS anyway.

BTS this way, spoilery for chapter 37, plus a random piece of awesome at the end )

Okay, back to our regularly scheduled simming, and for me, back to working on the sekrit project!

Hi, all!

I just returned from my two-week vacation in Thailand last night, so I'm now back and alive. I'm yet somewhat tired and confused from the long flight and the time difference, but it was definitely worth it. The sun, the sand and the beach enjoyed together with the family were exactly what I needed right now, and it was a lot of fun.

I've still got some vacation time left, which I'll be spending mostly at home, so I expect to get some simming stuff done, after I wash all the laundry and whatnot. I'm eager to get on with the rotation, plus maybe I can now start fleshing out the ideas I have for that sekrit project I've been mentioning. I must be crazy, but I do feel like actually taking it on...

First, though, I've got some comments and replies to get to. Thanks to all who commented on the latest chapter, I'll be getting back to you soon - and after that it's time to see what story updates I've missed while I was gone. It's good to be back!
katrisims: (bookacy)
Okay, so I should be at bed already, have an early morning tomorrow, but I wanted to squeeze the update together.

The cover slide on Slideshare looks a bit wonky, not sure why and I don't have time to investigate now. Sorry about that. It seems this time Slideshare would work and Scribd wouldn't. These things are odd.

Anyway, I hope it works and hope you enjoy! If you'd like to comment, you can do so here or in my boolprop thread.

So we have a three-day weekend here (it's midsummernight's eve today), and what do I do? Well I promptly fall ill, of course. Nice, I'm apparently such a good employee that I don't even get sick on the employer's time. *grumbles*

Oh well. I meant to be working on the update this weekend, but at least yet I haven't quite felt up to it - for some reason I feel I should have a working brain when I try to write the update. Suppose that's optional, though. So anyway, I've been thinking I should do this generation's who's who one of these times, so why not now. Generation C is so big already that I have to split it in parts. This time, we'll cover the main line and the first cousins, and I'll do the second cousins at a later time. I apologize in advance if there's anything braindead in the below, I blame the flu.

11 sims and plenty of pictures under the cut. (May also involve some spoilers if you haven't read the latest chapters.)

Who's who in Generation C first circle? )

So that's who's who in the first circle. As I said earlier, I'll do the second cousins at a later time. Now back to sneezing, coughing and pondering about sekrit projects.

Finally! I went to exchange the graphics card today. The store was very friendly, they only asked me for five euros more when I exchanged the card that was not broken in any way into a different one, for basically it was all my fault I didn't get it right the first time. Well, my friend plugged the card in, we downloaded the driver, restarted the computer and tried the game - it works! And this time, no blockiness, no grayed out smooth edges, no nothing. And it is pretty and fast, yay!

So, now unless anything else breaks (*knocks on wood* Some bad luck I've had with it, but now it finally looks to be fine. *knocks again*), I should be all set. I think I know what I'm doing this weekend. :)
katrisims: (Default)
You must be sick of these computer updates by now, sorry about that.

Smooth edges, graphics cards, blah blah )

So the downside is, we're not quite there yet, there's been a further complication. But the upside is, my old card is now in, and it works, so I can play again, hooray! It's slower than it was with the newer card, of course, but still faster than it was before the old computer broke. I think I'll wait for the new card before I start shooting pictures again, since my resolutions and stuff can yet change, and I don't want to get pictures inconsistent twice within a chapter. So right now, I'm building a set I realized I'm going to need anyway. At least some progress can happen already.

This will get fixed. I'm determined.
